My 2026 Fall/Halloween painting "Happy Halloween Cookies" was based on a real-life sugar cookie/frosting model that I baked and decorated and then replicated with acrylic paint in the trompe l'oeil style. This means that the painting is virtually flat, but it is painted in a way that looks amazingly three-dimensional and highly realistic in its details. The print is a very close representation of the original painting. 

When I was growing up, our small town always did its Halloween trick-or-treating on the Saturday before (or on) Halloween. We started off with a big afternoon parade downtown where all of the kids would march, then pass by a judge's stand (where we could win prizes), then walk through the firehouse for our free orange drink, cookie and a fifty-cent piece, then proceed in an orderly fashion through the town for trick-or-treating -- all in the daytime.

One elderly woman always set up a big table on her front porch, where the children could come and decorate their own sugar cookies. That was their treat. I always looked forward to it, and the woman always looked so happy, seeing the children making something all their own, instead of just the traditional grab-and-go candy. This piece is in honor of her and all of the other creative people who strive to make magical moments for people during the holidays. Forty years later, it still means a lot to me.

Also, I made all of my cookie smiling! No scary stuff here. Thus, Happy Halloween Cookies!
