The Trompe L'Oeil Foodscape Series

Gingerbread neighborhood painting by Kim Testone along with the original real-life cookie model she baked and built first.
The Trompe L'Oeil Foodscape series consists of time-consuming works that are based on real-life cookie/frosting models that I bake and build by hand (which takes days!) and then paint using dozens of thin layers of acrylic paint in a trompe l'oeil style (which takes dozens to hundreds of hours). The results are paintings that present
the illusion of three-dimensional cookie sculptures, when in reality they are flat. You can view my many process videos on my TikTok, as well as some on my Instagram page. These works are complex and best viewed in person, where it is evident that the dimension is in part created by the layers of paint allowing light to pass through and bounce back at the viewer. But whether you get to see them online or in person, I hope they help you to see a bit of magic in the world and that ultimately, they make you smile!

More works will be added to this page as they are completed. Thank you for visiting!
