This limited-edition print of Bee Dancing with Daisies, Cookie Landscape Number 2, is a piece full of happy imagination that I hope will incite a sense of joy and wonder in those who see it. To create the model for the painting, I baked, stacked and decorated sugar cookies, and used frosting not only on the cookies, but as the background and the stems of the "daisies." The swirls of the frosting help to create a sense of movement, capturing the dance between the cookie bee and cookie flowers. It was painted in the trompe l'oeil style, which means to fool the eye. The original painting is flat, with all of the seeming textures and shadows creating depth all part of a convincing three-dimensional illusion. Thanks for looking!
This print is based on an original 12" x 12" acrylic painting by Kim Testone. The original is currently a finalist in the prestigious Richeson75 Small Works 2025 competition. It will be on view at the Richeson School of Art and Gallery in Kimberly, Wisconsin, from February 21 to April 2, 2025. The original will be made available for sale at a later date.
