"Bee Dancing with Daisies," acrylic on panel, 12" x 12" diameter. Professionally framed in a contemporary white floater frame. Based on a real-life sugar cookie and frosting model that I baked and decorated and then replicated with acrylic paint in the trompe l'oeil style. This means that the painting is virtually flat, but painted in a way that looks amazingly three-dimensional and highly realistic in its details.
"Bee Dancing with Daisies" was the first piece I started in my foodscape cookie series. I wanted to see if I could create a small scene in which I could instill life and whimsy into cookies and frosting. I purposely designed the piece to include lots of swoopy shapes in my frosting model, to mimic the wind blowing through the air and sky. I choose this simple scene, inspired from my childhood, to portray the simple and inherent beauty of nature when it's simply left alone to thrive. Nature "dances" with all of its parts in harmony.
Be sure to check out my TikTok video showing some of the side views of some of my cookie trompe l'oeil paintings, including "Bee Dancing with Daisies," proving that the piece is flat despite its three-dimensional appearance.
