Sing (Original Acrylic Painting by Kim Testone)

"Sing," acrylic on panel, 24" x 12". Professionally framed in a contemporary white floater frame. Based on a real-life sugar cookie, pretzel, ice cream cone and frosting model that I baked and decorated and then replicated with acrylic paint in the trompe l'oeil style. This means that the painting is virtually flat, but painted in a way that looks amazingly three-dimensional and highly realistic in its details. 

"Sing" was inspired by a small family of birds that regularly nests on my porch. While I tried to stop them for a few years, deterring them with shiny objects, I eventually came to the realization that having them is a gift. I get to see the new baby birds learn to fly and sing each year, and they've become quite comfortable dancing around near my feet when I'm outside. I like to think that this painting serves as a whimsically-styled reminder to always look for the good and appreciate the little things in life.

Like all of my pieces from this series, I ultimately think "Sing" stands for hope. Using cookies and frosting as the base design elements allows an easier entry point for viewers to enjoy and thoughtfully consider the work.
